Mexico main producer of avocado
With a historic production of one million 997,629 tons in 2017, Mexico is consolidated as the main avocado generator with presence in markets in Europe, Asia, Australia, as well as in North, Central and South America.
Demand for this fruit has increased in 26 countries that include members of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA); Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP); and the Northern Triangle Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
The main export destinations for this product are the United States, Japan, Canada, Spain, France, the Netherlands, El Salvador, China, Honduras and Guatemala, which together account for about 98% of total exports.
The United States accounts for approximately 76.8% of purchases of Mexican fruit; Japan, seven per cent; Canada, 6.7% Spain, 1.7% France, 1.7% and the Netherlands, 1.6%.
